I thought I'd share an experience that I had recently for the newbies. I'm in the process of getting my concealed carry permit. About four weeks ago I went to the Arkansas State Police (ASP) to get fingerprinted. The process that we used first was the traditional method. The card was sent to the FBI. I got the results last week: REJECTED. According to ASP, this was because the FBI was unable to get a good set of prints, and therefore I had to come back and request to be fingerprinted with either the LiveScan or black powder dusting. I asked why my prints were rejected, just out of curiosity. I was told that it was because the ridges in my fingerprints were so flat. So then I got to thinking, "What causes that? Are there other reasons why a fingerprint would be rejected?"

I found out that sometimes your job affects how sharp the ridges are. I also found other causes for rejection:
